Karen Boehm is a local Clarkdale artist who has been participating in Made In Clarkdale for twenty years. Karen was born and raised in NYC. In 1987 she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with honors from Queens College C.U.N.Y. with a concentration in oil painting and black and white photography. In her sophomore year at college, Karen received a full scholarship for the summer art program at Caumsett State Park, where she lived and worked with other students, under the guidance of superior artists. This was an enriching and valuable experience. Karen minored in education and has been creating art and teaching ever since. She does work in oil, watercolor, ink, charcoal, pastel and photography. Ms.Boehm has been teaching at Desert Star Community School for the past nine years. She runs the handwork program, teaching knitting, crochet, cross stitch, weaving, hand sewing and machine sewing. She also teaches art in most of the grades. Karen has also taught art in Flagstaff at a gallery known as Arttrek . She also taught a summer watercolor workshop for The Grand Canyon Field Institute. Karen lives in lower Clarkdale with her fifteen year old daughter Emma. Her daughter Gem recently moved to Denver and her son Champ(Max) lives in Phoenix.
