“When you come from the heart as I do in teaching yoga, all life is sacred! My art reflects my love of the gentle flowing lines of the human form, whether it be from pre-natal or post-natal mothers and children, to couples or singles, all are an expression of that divine love!” ~ Carol Ann Oveross
Carol was born and raised for 13 years in New York City. She moved to Southern California where and continued to develop her artistic skills in Pastels and Pen & Ink. With a degree in Illustration she has exhibited her artwork at numerous art installations throughout California & Arizona.
During her twenty-five years at the prestigious Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, Carol exhibited at the Annual Staff and Faculty Art Exhibitions. It was during this time that she was inspired to create her own “Pen & Ink Sketching Journals,” recording
many of life’s inspirations from many of her journeys and travels throughout the world. She led FIDM students throughout Europe as their “Study Tour & Travel Coordinator.” Her creations in “Pen & Ink” capture many familiar global highlights from Europe, including England, France, Italy, Spain, Wales, Scotland, Germany, Hungary, Norway & Sweden. Carol‟s exotic travel destinations also included the deserts of Egypt and the Canary Islands, with stops in the tropical rainforests of Brazil, as well as in Costa Rica and Mexico in Central America.
Since 2006 Carol has lived in Cottonwood, AZ, facilitating many sketching classes for the OLLI Program (Osher Lifelong Learning Institute) on the Yavapai College, Clarkdale Campus. The learning groups she led included; “Create your own Sketching Journal,” “Figure Drawing made Easy,” “Sketching the Fall Foliage,” “Sketching Hands & Feet,” “Spontaneous Doodling: Sketching with Pen & Ink” and “Figure That!: A Life Drawing class.”
As a member of ELVAA (El Valley Art Association) she has presented two (2) half-day “Pen & Ink Cross-Hatched Rendering Technique Workshops” for its members at Jerona Java Café & Gifts in Cottonwood, AZ.
Along with studying portraiture, pastels and watercolor with such notable artists as Eva Marie Commanich in San Marino, CA, Timothy Clark of San Juan Capistrano, CA and Susan Pitcairn of Sedona, AZ
In 2007, upon her retirement (“re-firement”), Carol‟s life took a new turn. She became a gifted Certified & Registered Integrative Yoga Therapist, instructing many Gentle Hatha Yoga classes and Chair Yoga classes throughout the Sedona & Verde Valley area. These classes give her added inspiration and the lovely, graceful yoga poses infuse her figure drawings in charcoal, colored pastels and sepia-toned & white Conte chalk renderings.
“As this old Welcoming Song of Love & Gratitude says it all with trust, love and sunshine in your heart: May the long time sun shine upon you, All love surround you, And the pure light within you, Guide your way on.‟
